Self-care during your period

Self-care is really important during your period

Eating a nutritious and healthy diet that's high in iron and fibre is recommended. During your period, you lose about four tablespoons of blood, not much but it's good to eat iron-rich foods during your period to replace the iron you do lose.

This could be red meat but spinach, broccoli, kale and lentils are fantastic options if you're vegetarian or vegan. Combining Vitamin C foods such as tomatoes with iron, especially plant-based iron, will add iron absorption.

Again, rest is always important. The recommended amount is about 8 hours per night.

During your period, many girls do feel fatigued, and getting in some extra sleep is a great idea - who doesn't like napping? Or sleeping in on the weekends?

Looking after yourself, not working too hard, staying up late watching Netflix or doing too much homework late into the evening is advised.

Lot of girls don't feel like exercising during their periods. But the great thing about exercise is that it releases endorphins, which make you feel happier even if you're feeling a bit down during your period.

We totally get it's hard to get motivated, especially in winter when it's easier to stay indoors, snugged up with a cup of hot chocolate.

But exercising during your period has lot of benefits; it can help reduce period cramps, it can make you feel better and help with constipation. And then you can snuggle in bed with treats and feel super smug at your awesome achievement.

If ever there is a time to treat yourself, it's during your period. Luna strongly recommends this.

Whether it's luxurious bubble baths, chocolate or eating any kind of dessert - like seriously, ginger brunch and berry cheesecake, OMG! Or face masks, manicures and pedicures, we're on board for all of it!

Just remember to be treat wise - haha, we're kidding, eat it all!

It's also important to be nice to those around you, and empathetic of your friends when they have their periods - being nice makes you feel good.

Luna is here to make this experience positive and fun (ya fun) for you. We've got your back, and know you’ve got this too!

Email us any time, there's no such thing as a dumb question!
